Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh

It has been actively involved in imparting training to prison and police officers of the country and also conducting various research activities. During the year 2018, ICA conducted 22 courses/workshops in which 500 officers were trained.

Outreach training programmes

During the year 2012, the Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh organized outreach training programme on ‘Prisons and Security Management’ at Mumbai Maharashtra for the prison officers of various States on 6th and 7th February, 2012. Another outreach training programme on “Prisoners’ Reintegration and Use of Open Prisons in India” was also conducted at Jaipur, Rajasthan from 10th – 12th April, 2012.

Interns

Students from various Universities come to ICA for internship placement. During the year 2017-18 the interns from various Universities / Institutes like students from Dev Samaj College, Chandigarh, Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, University Institute of Legal Studies, P.U. Chandigarh, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, Army Law Institute Mohali, came to ICA, Chandigarh for doing their internship in order to get first hand exposure to Criminal Justice issues.

The Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh started functioning from the year 1989 with full financial assistance from the Centre. The Institute is a society registered under the Societies Registration Act and it has its own Board of Management headed by Additional Secretary (CS), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs. The Director of the Institute is the Home Secretary, U.T., Chandigarh.
